“The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion it has taken place” – George Bernard Shaw
GEMMA PETTMAN / Chartered PR Advisor
You know communication is crucial. It’s how you earn understanding, build support and influence opinion and behaviour. But why is it so difficult to get right? (I’m assuming that’s why you’re here).
My bet is that you’re lacking skills, resources or a solid plan; maybe all three. You’re doing valuable work and you’re really busy, perhaps even overwhelmed at times. I understand.
If you want to improve how you connect with your communities, I can help.
For the last 25 years, I have helped charities and public sector organisations to develop their strategies, improve stakeholder engagement and communicate through crises. As an independent Chartered PR practitioner, I have met rigorous criteria relating to professional standards, knowledge, capability and ethical practice.
I also bake a good cake, should you need any more convincing of my merits.

SERVICES I OFFER
How much does it cost?
It’s difficult to give a ballpark figure for such varied services but it may help you to know that my usual day rate is £475. I have benchmarked this with several specialist recruitment agencies, taking into account my training, skills and years of experience.
I generally work on the basis of a project cost, meaning you’ll know the full fee in advance and exactly what’s included. Services can be adjusted to suit your budget but the outcomes will differ; I am always honest about what’s possible.

Five things I say most weeks
[Updated for 2023] Replying to a post that Sarah Browning shared on LinkedIn, in which she asked her network what their clients remember from them when they’re not there, got me thinking about the phrases I use most often in my work as a PR…
